“Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically, as something done for the Lord and not for men” – Colossians 3:23
To be honest, this fast hasnt been painfully hard for me. Thankfully, God had convicted me some time ago about having a more disciplined diet and taking better care of my physical body. I hope you are listening to Him about this too because I tell you with absolute sincerity, I am a more effective Preacher, Pastor, Husband, father and friend now that I’ve gotten fit. It really does make a difference.
That said, there have been moments during this fast where I simply didnt want to fast any longer. Moments when visions of a great big, juicy rib eye danced like sugar plumbs in my head! Yes, in my weakest moments during this fast, I hated this fast.
In those moments, this verse came to mind, “Whatever you do (including fasting) do it enthusiastically…”.
You know, I have come to grips with the fact that life can be hard. Not everything falls into place as we think it should. Heartache, pain, circumstance and yes even hunger pangs come and go….we simply need to remember that at the end of the day, God is good and what we do is for His glory. I find joy in that and I hope you do as well.
*Does enthusiasm mark your life?
