One of my favorite movies growing up was Sly Stallones “Rocky”. Because the movie was and is a universal hit…so I’m sure you remember it well, I wont spend a lot of time explaining it away other than to state the obvious..it’s a boxing movie. I always found it to be interesting that while filming the original movie, Sly was asked by a reporter if he found boxing to be a good form of physical conditioning – His reply, “Hey yo, as long as I can yell “cut” whenever I want to!”.
All to often, couples view marriage the same way. It’s a great thing as long as we have the option of calling it off when things get hard.
Truth: God calls for steadfast commitment through good AND bad times. Consider what the very forst book of our Bible has to say about that fact….
“Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our own image, according to Our likeness, and let them rules over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every thing that creeps along the earth. God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him, male and female He created them…” Gen 1:26-27
According to this passage of Scripture, God created us in HIS own image.
Big Question- Knowing that your spouse bears Gods image, how should that affect the way you view / treat them?
When God created Adam & Eve, they reflected His image. Yet together, in marriage, they reflect the deep, intimate relationship among the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
You see, Adam and Eve completed each other in ways that were amazing and pleasing to both. There was a firm commitment from each party…as there should be.
Decide today to renew your commitment to that spouse, created in the very image of God, that you’ve been blessed with!
