Yesterday, we began looking at the Gospel (euangelion…good-message) of salvation. We were reminded that man, because of his sin, stood in desperate need of a Savior and the only one meeting the requirements of a savior (able and willing to save) is Christ Himself.

This fact throws all other means and methods of salvation out of the window yet many continue to frustratingly place their hope for salvation in things like education (1st Tim 6:20, 2nd Tim 3:7),  good works or deeds (Eph 2:8-9), Baptism (1st Cor 1:7), keeping the law (Gal 2:16) and so on.

While this is discouraging, it’s not a surprise. Folks with a false hope of salvation are spoken of in Scripture itself…

“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death” Proverbs 14:12

A quick review of Gods Word confirms the fact that Scripture clearly teaches that any manner or method of salvation apart from that in which Jesus provides is fruitless and vain. Knowing this, let’s systematically dig into the doctrine of the Salvation God has provided in Christ Jesus and prayerfully understand even further how GOOD the news of the Gospel really is!

While Salvation has a singular Savior…it is a threefold method. While it’s true that God has dealt with His creation under different dispensations (pre-law stages, age of the law, post-age stage, etc.)….He saved them all by an identical threefold method:

1. Salvation Is Always By Blood – The blood must be innocent, shed and applied.

“According to the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness” Hebrews 9:22

2. Salvation Is Always Through A Person

“…but as for me, I will sacrifice to You with a voice of thanksgiving. I will fulfill what I have vowed. Salvation is from the Lord!” Jonah 2:9

“There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to people, and we must be saved by it.” Acts 4:12

“….He became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey Him” Hebrews 5:9

3. Salvation Is Always By Grace

“For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift” Ephesians 2:8

This Grace is….

Preceded By The Sinners Faith (Which is a gift from God) –  Hebrews 11:6, Romans 5:1

Followed By The Saviors PeaceRomans 1:7, 1st Corinthians 1:3, Galatians 1:3)

One of the most wondrous aspects of the Gospel of Salvation is how the Trinity (God the Father, God the Son and God The Spirit) work together in bringing it to pass All play essential roles in someone being rescued from the flames of Hell.

1. God the Fathers Work In Salvation: Design the Plan In Eternity

We see His Eternal Design in the role He Plays In Salvation…..

*He Foreknows – “For those He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers” Romans 8:29 (also 11:2, 1st Peter 1:2)

*He Predestines – “He predestined us to be adopted through Jesus Christ for Himself, according to His favor and will” Ephesians 1:5 (also Acts 4:28, Romans 8:29-30)

*He Elects – “This is why I endure all things for the elect: so that they also may obtain salvation, which is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory” 2nd Timothy 2:10 (also Matthew 20:16, 22:14, Mark 13:20, 1st Thess 1:4, 2nd Thess 2:13)

*He Calls – “For many are invited, but few are chosen.” Matthew 22:14 and Acts 2:39 “For the promise is for you and for your children, and for all who are far off,as many as the Lord our God will call” (Also see 1st Cor 1:2, 9, 24, 26 and Galatians 1:6, 15, 5:8-13)

2. God The Sons Work In Salvation: Carry Out The Plan

*Jesus would become flesh and bone – “Therefore, as He was coming into the world, He said: You did not want sacrifice and offering, but You prepared a body for Me. You did not delight in whole burnt offerings and sin offerings. Then I said, “See—it is written about Me in the volume of the scroll— I have come to do Your will, God!” After He says above, You did not want or delight in sacrifices and offerings, whole burnt offerings and sin offerings (which are offered according to the law), He then says, See, I have come to do Your will. He takes away the first to establish the second” Hebrews 10:5-9

*Jesus Would Function In A Son and Servant Relationship To God – (Isaiah 43:10, 49:3-6, Matthew 12:8-20, John 10:17)

*Jesus Would Dies For The Sins Of The World – “She will give birth to a son, and you are to name Him Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins” Matthew 1:21 (Also John 1:29, 12:23, Acts 3:26, Romans 5:6)

Jesus Would Receive As His Inheritance The Nations, Along With All Power And Authority – “…and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead and the ruler of the kings of the earth” Revelation 1:5 (Also Matthew 11:27, 28:18, Daniel 7:13, Psalm 2:6-8)

3. God The Spirits Work In Salvation: Declare The Plan Daily

*Through Proclamation (Speaking Through Gods Servants)- “But how can they call on Him they have not believed in? And how can they believe without hearing about Him? And how can they hear without a preacher? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How beautifulare the feet of those who announce the gospel of good things! But all did not obey the gospel. For Isaiah says, Lord, who has believed our message? So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the message about Christ” Romans 10:14-17

*Through Conviction – “Nevertheless, I am telling you the truth. It is for your benefit that I go away, because if I don’t go away the Counselor will not come to you. If I go, I will send Him to you.  When He comes, He will convict the world about sin, righteousness, and judgment:  About sin, because they do not believe in Me;  about righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will no longer see Me;  and about judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged” John 16:7-11

*Through Regeneration – “Jesus replied, “I assure you: Unless someone is born again,he cannot see the kingdom of God. “But how can anyone be born when he is old?” Nicodemus asked Him. “Can he enter his mother’s womb a second time and be born?” Jesus answered, “I assure you: Unless someone is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.  Whatever is born of the flesh is flesh, and whatever is born of the Spirit is spirit.  Do not be amazed that I told you that you must be born again” John 3:3-7

*Through Sanctification – “But we must always thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God has chosen you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and through belief in the truth” 2nd Thessalonians 2:13

So we’ve seen that The Gospel Of Salvation was the eternal plan of God in our first blog. In Day 2 we saw that men desperately need a Savior and that Christ is the only one worthy of that title and today we have worked through the method and manner of Salvation that God has (and is) providing!

Take some time today to think deeply upon the subject of Salvation and thank God for His provision! What a plan! What Gospel!

Soli Deo Gloria – Pastor Kyle
